Apprenticeships
Decorative & Ornamental Plastering has been taking on apprentices since its inception. Managing Director Colin Parkins believes it is only right to offer apprenticeships as the fibrous plaster industry has not been particularly forthcoming in its training of the next generation.
“Many of the current fibrous plasterers have picked up their trade from just working their way up by working with and watching others.
What you end up with then is either a shop hand or a site fixer, and not one who is capable of doing both shop work and fixing.”
The company currently employs two apprentices – Frank and Becky – who have been with us since 2019.
Both are getting along brilliantly so far and you can read more from them here.
“Our apprentices spend their first 9 to 12 months in the workshop. They will then get the opportunity to go and work on sites, to both the fixing of our fibrous plaster works and also spend time with solid plasterers who will educate and train them in respect of putting plaster on walls and ceilings. At times they may well return to the workshop also. So over the 3 year apprentice period they gain valuable experience on ALL aspects of plastering. At the end of their 3 years they can then venture into the wide world in whatever aspect of plastering they want.”
