Following our first FIS meeting, we were approached by Sarah Mayfield of Mayfield Heritage Ltd., to provide a quotation for fibrous plaster works at the Institute of Civil Engineering (I.C.E), which was duly accepted.
There was a very tight programme issued and manufacturing works had to be completed over the Christmas/New Year period, to allow the fixing to be completed in the first week of January 2022.
The works involved careful removal of the existing spandrel fibrous casts due to their deterioration and failing plaster wads which dated back to the early 1900s. The existing highly decorative centre section also had to be secured once access was obtained following the removal of the 4No quadrant sections.
Squeezes of the quadrant mouldings were taken on site and these returned to our workshop where models were manufactured and 4No new sections, including reinforced steel wire incorporated within the casts, were returned to site to be fixed.
Our fixing methods were very similar to those used in the early 1900s, and the finished product ensured that this very important London building will continue its fine history of London heritage.
